Sony Speaks About Recession and Video Games

In the current financial turmoil, every industry is having trouble and most companies are looking forward to losses and employees fear job cuts. But many have pointed out that the video games industry is recession-proof. But is that really so? Do gamers keep on buying video games?

Kazuo Hirai, the President and Group Chief Operating Officer of Sony Computer Entertainment, doesn’t exactly think that they are rescission-proof. Speaking with the Wall Street Journal, he said, “I wouldn’t go so far as to say we’re recession-proof, but we expect to be hit much less than an auto company, for example. We expect to do very well in the year-end shopping season.”

Hirai mentioned that the company is hoping that Home will help them strengthen holiday-season sales. He also pointed out that Sony is on course to meet its objective of selling ten million PS3 consoles as well as fifteen million PSP consoles for the fiscal year that ends in March next year.
