Nintendo Consoles Reign Supreme in February 2008

It is becoming some sort of a trend as Nintendo consoles are topping the sales lists nearly every month. Data released by the research group NPD indicated that the Wii has topped the next generation console space followed by the PS3 and then the Xbox 360. As for the handhelds, the Nintendo DS tops with the PSP coming in second.

Anita Frazier is an analyst with NPD. She explained, “Even following a red-hot 2007, the video games industry shows no sign of letting up as year-to-date sales through February are up 12 percent over last year. Taking the extra week of sales included in the 2007 figures, on a comparable weeks basis, 2008 is up approximately 26 percent over last year (through February).”

Speaking about numbers, the total hardware sales for February were up from the earlier year. As for the Nintendo Wii, it sold some 587,600 units. As for the PS2, some 351,800 consoles were shifted while the PS3 managed to sell around 280,800 units. The figure is high compared to that of the Xbox 360, which sold some 254,600 consoles. It seems that Nintendo is having the upper hand but it is getting worrying for Microsoft, who is losing their foothold to the PS3.
