The original Gears of War was released in November 2006 and we reported in January 2007 that the game crossed the three million copies milestone. The sequel to the third person shooter was released last month and though it isn’t that great, Gears Of War 2 is surely selling a lot of copies.
Now gaming industry news website Edge Online is reporting that Gears Of War 2 too has crossed the three million mark. Epic Games confirmed to them that the sequel to Gears Of War has sold more than three million copies. An email from Mark Rein, the vice president of Epic Games stated:
“Microsoft (the game’s publisher) confirmed to me this afternoon that Gears of War 2 sell-through surpassed 3 million units as of last week.”
The original Gears Of War went on to sell nearly five million copies. It seems that Gears Of War 2 could better that! The game is also one of the top titles on Microsoft’s Xbox Live service.
