Call of Duty MMO, Guitar Hero Instruments Possible: Activision CEO

At the beginning of the year, Activision had announced that the Guitar Hero franchise had crossed the billion dollar mark in North America and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare was the number one title in units worldwide for 2007. These two titles are raking in a lot of moolah for Activision.

An article on gaming news website GameSpot says that Bobby Kotick, who is the chief executive officer of Activision has said that they could come out with a massively multiplayer game based on Call of Duty series. Kotick also pointed to the Guitar Hero franchise and was continually using the word ‘instruments’ to refer to the controllers of Guitar Hero.

Bobby Kotick said, “When you think about other properties that we own and control like Call of Duty, and what would be the natural evolution of a property like Call of Duty into a massively multiplayer environment… How do you monetize that?” He also added that there is a keenness for the Guitar Hero product.

Though getting “instruments” for the Guitar Hero franchise is a good idea, having a MMOG based on Call of Duty is a great one. Presently, there are MMOGs belonging to the shooter genre, but something that is set around COD would be nice.
