M-Rated Games being Sold To Minors: Survey

There has been a lot of hue and cry lately about video games that have controversial content being sold to minors. Now an article in the San Diego Union-Tribune tells about an undercover survey conducted along with the National Institute on Media and Family (NIMF), which has revealed shocking details.

ESRB M-RatedThey have found that 46 percent of stores in the United States were willing to sell games that were rated ‘M for Mature’ to teenagers younger then 18 years of age. The other people who were involved in conducting the survey were the East County Youth Coalition, based in San Diego. Nearly sixty stores were surveyed.

The groups are now calling retailers and want them to strictly adhere to the ESRB rating system. Not only that, the groups also wanted the retailers to institute formal training for employees. They also want the rating system displayed prominently at the store and the mature-themed video games should be separated from other video game titles.
