Battlefield 4 Drone Strike DLC is premium expansion pack available with pre-order

Drone Strike will be the previously announced premium expansion pack for Battlefield 4, and has been revealed via a leaked image of the game’s marketing material. Ever since the next title in the BF series was announced a few days ago at the Game Developers Conference (GDC), the talk surrounding it has been climbing steadily.

The recent announcement, which also confers a fall 2013 release date onto the title, brought us information regarding a pre-order bonus. Those who book their copy of the game at participating retailers will receive the premium expansion pack at no additional charge. There will also be a special deluxe edition, an Origin exclusive which includes bonus in-game digital items, and those who pre-order said special edition will get the pack and have access to the exclusive multiplayer beta.

Coming back to the bit about the Drone Strike DLC, an image of promotional materials was leaked (which we’ve posted below) that seemed to hint at the name of the pre-order content. Now as it turns out, developer DICE has confirmed to gaming website MP1st that this is in fact a working title for the content that those who book the game can expect. What it will contain exactly, in terms of gameplay elements, is still unknown though.

The game will use the developer’s proprietary Frostbite 3 engine and incorporates multiplayer game design elements into the single player campaign, Electronic Arts says. These include vast expanses of terrain, access to a number of vehicles and the ability to dictate commands to squad members. The last isn’t completely new and has manifested in another one of EA’s franchises – Army of Two.

There is some spectacular gameplay footage to be had, about 17 minutes of it to be sure, which we’ve attached here. But be warned, apart from absolutely gorgeous visuals and interactive, living environments, it contains some brutal scenes and a little strong language. Besides a grenade or two, the F-bomb is also dropped a few times. Check it out below.

So there it is. The Drone Strike DLC for Battlefield 4 will come to those who pre-order the title from participating retailers in the US and Canada. The game arrives this fall with no mention of availability on Sony’s PS4 console, which should be released a little bit later.
