Sir, You Are Being Hunted is an interesting little game that’s gearing up to hit PC, Mac and Linux platforms this July. It is basically an open world survival title that prides itself on its procedurally generated environments. Kickstarter regulars might remember it from its successful campaign on the crowd-funding website which ended in December last year. Its two videos that have been released now, go on to explain its gameplay aspects in depth.
Big Robot Games is the name of the studio which is developing this title, with founder and games journalist-turned-designer, Jim Rossignol, handling it as well. A bleak British landscape is used as the setting for this offering, and its steampunk art style is also something worth noticing. Video number 1 gives us a lowdown upon the kind of environments this game will be generating, and how hiding is always the best form of defense against the ‘well-dressed robots’ that are going all out to kill the protagonist.
The second video expands on the same aspect, and showcases how the food system of the title works. Gamers will need to keep a low-profile, as they scrounge for food items that are necessary to keep their characters alive. Some bits of combat also find their way into the videos. However, strong advice is given by the developers towards adopting a stealthy approach. This DRM-free title also features a visibility meter which helps players get a fair idea of whether or not they’re too close to their enemies.
In Novembers this year, Big Robot set out to ask for Kickstarter funding for the title, with an ultimate goal of 40,000 GBP in mind. Within a month, 92,551 GBP were raised by the community, which propelled the developers to put up a number of stretch goals, some of which were also achieved. Amongst them was support for multiplayer. Although this feature won’t be available from launch, it will be introduced later through downloadable updates. It will center on 4-player gameplay, wherein players will either be able to compete against or co-operate with each other as they combat the robots.
No proper release date has yet been disclosed for Sir, You Are Being Hunted, but eager gamers can expect it to hit PC, Mac and Linux sometime in June this year.
