Delivering a rude shock to fans so eagerly yearning for the next installment to the revered FPS series, Irrational Games announced recently that BioShock Infinite will be shipped next year instead of its October 16, 2012 release date. February 26, 2013 is the new launch date for this game which is all geared up to take the series into a completely new environment set in a city suspended in the air by giant blimps and balloons.
Infusing the title with some specific ‘tweaks and improvements’ has been cited as the main reason behind this delay. Irrational Games claims the game contains elements that no one has ever put in a first-person shooter before. Also, the developer has disclosed that it has no plans to showcase this title at any big summer events such as E3 or Gamescom. That because, preparing for these shows apparently takes time away from development.
“I won’t kid you: BioShock Infinite is a very big game, and we’re doing things that no one has ever done in a first-person shooter. We had a similar experience with the original BioShock, which was delayed several months as our original ship date drew near. Why? Because the Big Daddies weren’t the Big Daddies you’ve since come to know and love. Because Andrew Ryan’s golf club didn’t have exactly the right swing. Because Rapture needed one more coat of grimy Art Deco,” said Ken Levine, creative director and co-founder of Irrational Games, on the developer’s official blog.
BioShock Infinite will be launched as a first-person shooter wherein players would be required to assume the role of a former Pinkerton agent named Booker DeWitt. He has been sent to the sky-city of Columbia in order to rescue Elizabeth, a young woman imprisoned there since childhood. On their journey, he develops a relationship with Elizabeth, thus enhancing his abilities, which will eventually help them escape.
The new release date for BioShock Infinite has been revealed to be February 26, 2013. It will be outed for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC simultaneously.
