2K Games and Gearbox Software Announce Duke Nukem Forever

It has been quite some time since we’ve heard an update about the next installment in the Duke Nukem saga. In December 2009, the Facebook page of the title pointed out the development of a new chapter. Now, 2K Games and Gearbox Software have announced that Duke Nukem Forever will be available next year for the Xbox 360, PS3 and Windows PC. Players who wish to peep into the world of this action hero can head straight to the Penny Arcade Expo which is currently underway in Seattle.

“All great things take time… a lot of time. After a hiatus from the video game world, Duke Nukem is back and better than ever. The return of the King from the glory days of shooters will satisfy our patient, die-hard fans, as well as a new generation of bubble gum-chewing, flat top and shades-wearing bad-asses. Make no mistake about it – Duke Nukem Forever is a testament to the era of when shooters were bodacious and fun,” notes Christoph Hartmann, President of 2K.

In this new title, Duke Nukem returns in his offbeat avatar to fight pig cops, alien shrink rays and other adversaries. On a mission to save the world as well as beautiful dames, players will not only don the hero’s role but also get to lay their hands on over-the-top weapons. They will have to face colossal alien enemies while reaching higher levels of interactivity. To get a hands-on experience of this escapade, players who are 17 years and above can visit the 2K Booth at this year’s Penny Arcade Expo.

“Hail to the king, baby! It’s unbelievable, it kicks ass and it’s totally going to happen!” enthused Randy Pitchford, President of Gearbox Software. “Gearbox has enabled die-hard key Duke Nukem franchise builders and skilled veteran game makers to stand together and deliver. All gamers deserve a happy ending and after all of us gamers feeling the full range of emotions about Duke Nukem Forever, I am thrilled to be in a position with the trust, power and means to make it happen. Am I crazy? Balls of steel, baby, balls of steel!”

The game will also enable players to indulge in activities such as hoop shooting, weight lifting, drawing crude messages and more. Seemingly, the developer is ready to introduce a new wave of playful and irreverent facets of Duke Nukem’s character. This sequel to the popular Duke Nukem 3D is presently under development at Gearbox Software.
