Halo: Reach Moving Towards A Militaristic Theme?

Master Chief has saved mankind innumerable times since 2000, but none of them have exactly felt like a gritty and degenerating war against the Covenant. Since Halo Reach is heading towards the origins of the Spartan race, one cannot help but see the light in which the game will actually be portrayed.

Halo: Reach

Almost all the earlier Halo games had a sense of immaturity built into the single player mode, the grittiness of war was somehow absent in crafting the universe of Halo. How many times it represented the dystopian version of the 70’s drug entrenched culture with the war on ‘nam flowing out in full force, hence the colorful palette. Many references have supported the use of multiple levels of color in the game to distinguish itself from any third person shooter in the planet.

This version, however justifiable, does not seem fit if the series has to embark on a mature theme (Point reference to Legend of Zelda: Twilight which dared to explore a darker interpretation of Link) and it seems Microsoft is finally constructing a universe which looks into the theme of fear, distraught and peril upon mankind. This is being said with reference to Paul Pepera’s profile who has worked on Section 8, Red Orchestra: Heroes of Stalingrad and Doom 4. Looking through his portfolio we are to witness loads of art sections that are dedicated to the theme of war. This militaristic theme is also being explored in Doom 4 as we noted in our earlier post where id was working in collaboration with Michael Dickheiser who had also sufficient experience in crafting technologies in the military.

Most of the hype around the game is also being centered on multiple characters to remind the player that this war that they’ve fought was not won by a sole standing presence of the Chief. ODST also explored a tactical edge to the series which had been hinging on the soul of a forced warrior and a devious A.I. Details regarding the game are moving in full flow and we should expect a detailed insight into the game in the near future.
