Pre-downloading feature coming to Wii U with Super Smash Bros.

When Super Smash Bros. hits the Wii U in November it will be the first game for the console which gamers will be able to play within seconds of it being available. That’s because a pre-loading feature will be made available with it by Nintendo, allowing players to download heavy files beforehand, and just activate the game with a small file once it becomes available. The Japanese company is also going to bring this feature onto the 3DS handheld sometime next year.

Super Smash Bros.

While addressing investors, the company’s president, Satoru Iwata confirmed the existence of this upcoming Wii U feature. Such a trait is already being experienced by PS4 and Xbox One owners, while some publishers of PC games too have been offering it over the years. Like we said, the Nintendo 3DS is next in line to get the pre-loading facility for its games, however, there’s no word on which will be the flagship title for it.

On the Wii U, this system will apply to games purchased via the the eShop as well as those bought using download cards sold at brick-and-mortar stores. Iwata has been prompt in mentioning that the pre-loading facility for Wii U and the 3DS is part of a gradual shift towards making the company’s digital business more user-friendly.

Super Smash Bros., which is already available for the 3DS will be hitting the Wii U in North America this November, while its European release will take place early in December. For those unaware, it’s the newest entry to Nintendo’s much popular fighting game series which pits characters from its universes against each other in varied matches.
