Microsoft Celebrates Gamers Night in Mumbai, India

Microsoft Gamers' Night

Though LAN parties are starting to be common in India, a Gamers’ Night would be rare. However, as consoles start to get into Indian homes, video gaming will start to get more and more popular prompting gaming companies to come up with innovative (and amazing) ideas to promote it even more!

Just yesterday, GameGuru.in was invited to such an event, a Gamers’ Night in suburban Mumbai. Members of the media as well as some lucky gamers were mingling in the night club and trying out some of the best games put up by Microsoft as well as EA. Well, we can’t reveal information about the titles by Electronic Arts as we were asked to sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA).

One of the main reasons that the Gamers’ Night was held was the release of Mass Effect in India. It was the game that received the maximum attention compared to the other games. There were couches and the games could be played on a big screen. By big, we mean really big as there was a huge screen in place. Mass Effect is just amazing and we feel besides the role playing gamers, gamers who enjoy playing shooter games would love this game.

Vivek Kulkarni is the product marketing manager for Xbox 360 and Games for Windows at Microsoft India. He explains, “We have a diverse portfolio of games across genres that appeal to all, fast paced action games to racing games to light-hearted games that everyone can enjoy.”

His views were echoed by Microsoft E&D divisions’ country manager, Mohit Anand. He commented, “Committed to the Indian market, our efforts are aimed at initiating and building a gamers’ community across India. We are here to promote gaming as an exciting genre of entertainment for family and friends. And Xbox 360 gives them just that, wholesome entertainment that people can enjoy as a community!”

And as Microsoft had promised, besides Mass Effect, there were a lot of other games. From the EA stable, there was NFS ProStreet, The Simpsons, The Orange Box and Army of Two as well as Crysis. However, we can’t tell you about these games as we were forbidden to release any details about them, which is surprising as the Orange Box is already out. WE did confirm with the people over there and they said it was under an NDA.

Anyways, we did have a great time playing the other games such as PGR 4 and Gears of War for the PC. But what caught our eye was the PC version of Epic Games’ masterpiece. Initially when we reached there, the PC version of Gears of War was not yet installed. We observed that it did take a long, long time to install. But still we got to play it and boy we should tell you, the game is just awesome. The PC version of Gears of War looks graphically superior to the Xbox 360 version and when we spoke to the person from Microsoft he defended the Xbox 360 version by saying that the PC running the game was using NVIDIA’s 8800GTX.

Halo 3 Limited Edition Poster - Master Chief

We also bought Mass Effect and guess what we got? Well, we were entitled to get the limited edition poster of Master Chief signed by Chris Carnet and Joseph Tung of Bungie Studios. What’s more, we got it signed by Vivek Kulkarni too! There are just 500 of these special Halo 3 poster and we got the 449th one.
