THQ announces games based on DreamWorks’ Megamind

So many times we have seen animated feature films sprout into video games. Now THQ has announced that a number of video games based on the upcoming DreamWorks’ animated film Megamind, are in development for the Xbox 360, PS3, PSP, Wii, and DS systems.

The video games are scheduled to launch this November alongside the film’s release on November 5, 2010 and will extend the film’s storyline with new characters, environments and twists in the tale. Players will experience the comic and crazy adventures of the Megamind universe. Word is that three unique gameplay experiences are in the works, with the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions being prepped to deliver two-player cooperative gameplay allowing for a social and interactive experience. The Wii game will have mega team party style gameplay while the DS and PSP versions will deliver entertaining solo functionality.

“We have an incredible relationship with DreamWorks Animation and worked closely with them on the development of the video games to explore fun and creative ways to approach the storyline and evolve the characters in Megamind,” commented Martin Good, Executive Vice President of Kids, Family, Casual Games and Online Global Services, THQ. “These new games will extend the movie experience for fans by presenting gamers of all ages with high-energy, multi-faceted gameplay that immerses them into the humorous world of this new superhero property.”

In the Xbox 360 and PS3 games, a sudden crime wave which has hit the city calls Megamind into action. Megamind’s untested and unstable inventions are stolen by a new group called “The Doom Syndicate” and players must defeat this coalition. A variety of Mega-Gadgets will be available in this two-player cooperative action-adventure title. The Wii game is a classic brawler with a choice of up to nine characters from the “film and beyond”. The multiplayer campaign includes Competitive, Cooperative as well as team-based gameplay modes. The DS and PSP games on the other hand give players an arsenal of weapons to blast their way through enemies.

The game will feature Jonah Hill who lends his voice to his film character.
