Double Dragon: Neon Announced for PSN and Xbox Live

Double Dragon: Neon, which is a reboot of the classic title from the 1980s, is all set to make its way to PSN and Xbox Live this summer. WayForward, the renowned studio behind the successful BloodRayne: Betrayal has handled the development reigns of the game, while the publishing duties are being carried out by Majesco Entertainment.

Said to be a face-melting 80’s tour de force, this title will feature a somewhat similar combat system to the original version and will also comprise retro visuals. Players will be faced with beating up bad guys across Earth and beyond in order to take down Black Dragon Clan’s most evil leader yet – the supernatural Skullmageddon. Just like in the original offering, co-op multiplayer will be on offer. Online players will be able to drop-in and drop-out anytime during the game.

Sean Velasco, Director, WayForward, revealed, “Double Dragon: Neon is far from a standard retro remake. It’s WayForward’s love letter to the decade that spawned the franchise – the music, the style, and culture of the 80’s pulse through the nucleus of Double Dragon: Neon. But don’t think this is a simple graphical facelift; with our innovative ‘mix tape’ level up system and power-up high-fives, we pushed it to the limit!”

The game will be playable all throughout the ongoing PAX East. Released way back in 1987, Double Dragon is known to have introduced several fresh features to the co-op genre. Since its original launch, it has received two arcade sequels and a number of spinoffs.

Double Dragon: Neon is yet to be blessed with a definite release date. But it has been confirmed that the title will hit PSN and Xbox Live during this summer.
