SOCOM 4 Bomb Squad Mode Disclosed, Beta to unlock later this Month

On their heels for some weeks now, Zipper Interactive and SCE have been spreading the word around about the next action-packed offering. Last month, the former disclosed the customized play feature which has been infused into its upcoming third-person shooter. A post on the US PlayStation blog has now unveiled the SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy SEALs Bomb Squad mode while highlighting the title’s beta release details.

Chipping together as the fourth pillar in the competitive mode, Bomb Squad will unleash a blistering spell of warfare alongside Suppression, Last Defense and Uplink. These multiplayer modes have been crafted to offer an expansive combat zone, extending the core essence of the franchise’s fighting domain.

The newly introduced Bomb Squad mode pitches the Spec Ops team against Insurgents who will to have plant bombs across the map. In turn, members of the Spec Ops will need to race against time for defusing these bombs. It has been stated that the success rate of the Spec Ops would lay in the way they balance teamwork, patience and strategy within a stipulated time.

Those who’ve already had a run through Killzone 3 could find some strings from the same yarn. Well, it has been reported that the Bomb Squad mode features a unique character namely that of a Bomb Technician. Armored with an automatic shotgun and a mobile grenade launcher, this character shoulders the main responsibility of defusing explosives.

With regards to the beta, Zipper has stated on the post that the SOCOM 4 Multiplayer Beta is designed to unfold in four distinct phases. It will enable players to experience all the four modes through two maps dubbed Port authority and Assault & Battery. During the beta, gamers can choose these modes in either Standard or Classic variants to yield more out of it. Besides, the beta will come with Move as well as 3D support.

The SOCOM 4 Multiplayer Beta has been scheduled to kick off privately for select players on March 15, 2011. The next stage which starts on March 22, 2011 will allow PlayStation Plus members to gain access into the beta. Those who have secured a code through a copy of Killzone 3 stand to flag off their campaign from March 29, 2011. If gamers can’t fit into any of these early birds slots, they’ll need to wait until April 5, 2011 when the beta will be available free-of-cost on the PlayStation Network.
