What does the Gears Of War 3 Reveal Mean for YOU?

Epic Games finally announced Gears of War 3 on a talk show. As everyone is busy dissecting the trailer, we went a step ahead and found some interesting additions that are being made in the game.

Gears of War 3

The Gears of War 3 trailer starts off with a bearded Dom running through the charred city of “Char” whose residents have turned into ash from the scorching heat of the Hammer of dawn which the COG used against their own kind. This sequence introduces a very important aspect of the gameplay that is presumed to be present when it launches next year. The game is shifting its trajectory from hardcore bolw’em up action to a story about survival. Throughout the trailer, this common line is echoed in numerous forms, be it Fenix’s timely arrival to help Dom or the rest of the Delta squad being cornered by the behemoth Lambent Locust and the Horde.

This notion of survival points to a variety in the campaign that may be present in the same since mankind is at war against two varieties of Locusts, there might just be differing encounters for the Delta squad allowing for a diversified combat module to emerge. There are set of new weapons that have been added to the game, two of which feature prominently in the trailer is the old world pendulum lancer which still is devoid of the beloved chainsaw used to slice and tear up your enemies.

This lancer comes with an equally deadly close combat assault weapon, a knife which we believe to be an addition post the events of Modern Warfare. This may be used to kill an enemy quickly without an option to engage in a chainsaw duel. The other new weapon that was featured in the trailer was a double barreled shotgun which looks right out the classic Doom. The additions of both these weapons point to a direction where the player somewhere along the narrative will go back to parts of an old world and pick these weapons up for combat. Now the variety of enemies remains more or less similar to the ones seen in the previous titles except for the huge spider like entity poking its claws at the Delta squad as it gets cornered. This enemy type is rumored to penetrate the cover mechanic, though most will find this addition new, it isn’t entirely true.

Looking back at the very first Gears of War 2 reveal in a popular gaming magazine, a similar tentacle like creature is seen attacking Marcus along with the Kantus standing right by it. There was explanation given for its absence in the final game. The tentacle also showcases the size of enemies the player will encounter through the game, which by all means looks to beat the shoddy Lambent Brumark we fought at the end of Gears 2.

This brings our discussion to the color palette, the game somewhere is signifying the absence of the sun completely even during the day because of which we bear witness to an overtly greyish-black color palette. If we were to recall the GDC tech demo that was available for the press we could see a similar dark tone being introduced in the game. The use of this color also signifies the desperate struggle mankind is enveloped in and the war they must win for their survival.
