Randy Pitchford Defends Unreal Engine 3

Though Epics Games’ Unreal Engine has powered games such as Gears of War and BioShock, it has been on the receiving end of heavy criticism by many developers. However, VideoGamer.com is reporting that Randy Pitchford from Gearbox Software has come out and spoke for Unreal Engine 3

Brothers In Arms: Hell's Highway

Randy Pitchford is the president and chief executive officer of Gearbox Software, who was responsible for the Brothers in Arms Franchise. At a press event for Brothers In Arms: Hell’s Highway, he said, “We love Unreal Engine. It is an outstanding piece of technology. Where we’ve used it as it is come, it’s been solid and secure for us. It’s great multiplatform technology, so we can run on the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. I have seen some of the stuff on the internet about the problems and I don’t know if these developers are maybe new, or not used to using other people’s technology or if they’ve gotten too many inexperienced developers or they’re just cry-babies. I just don’t know.”

In fact, Pitchford also mentioned that Hell’s Highway will be better than Gears of War and praised Epic Games for optimizing Unreal Engine 3 even further. Brothers In Arms: Hell’s Highway is expected to be out by the first quarter of 2008 for the PS3, Xbox 360 and the PC.
