It seems it is going to be third time lucky for Angelina Jolie. Ian Livingstone, who is the co-founder of Eidos and the SCi product acquisition director has revealed that they are looking to make a Tomb Raider 3. But, he has indicated that they would see how Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Anniversary does in the gaming market.
Ian Livingstone told the Daily Mirror, “At this moment in time it’s still not green-lit, but the signs are there. Paramount has talked about the film for a long time, and I’ve had meetings with them. They are willing to put a scriptwriter on board. Angelina Jolie has an option to do a third movie. I think when they see how successful Anniversary will be and realize that the world is still in love with Lara. They will be more inclined to exercise their option.”
Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Anniversary is expected to release for the PC and the PS2 on June 1, 2007 while the PSP version of the game will be launched a little later in the year. The game could probably be a huge hit as it is the tenth anniversary version of the Lara Croft series and hardcore Lara Croft fans are waiting for it from a long, long time.
The first two movies, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001) and Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life (2003) bombed at the box office. Maybe this time they try something different with more graphics and a nice storyline or use the Brangelina hype to publicize Tomb Raider 3!
